Last week, the first PESA DMU successfully entered service in Lithuania. After successful homologations in Germany, Italy and Belarus besides the trains in Poland, PESA is gaining more and more traction across Europe.
While the largest rolling stock manufacturers have shown on many occasions their difficulties to homologate a train for a specific country, respectively for multiple countries, PESA has now also managed to overcome this challenge. This opens up their market, especially for diesel multiple units, across Europe.
Lithuania now operates regional and intercity passenger trains produced by PESA, double deck EMUs by Skoda and many older EMUs. It will be interesting who will eventually replace the EMUs of soviet heritage to improve operational efficiency and availability. After the difficult procurement regarding the CAF trains, Lithuania has successfully ordered and put into service several trains.
