Today, the Bundesamt für Statistik published the traffic data for public transport in Switzerland in 2015 (you can find it under this link).
Despite the fact that we would not be surprised if we reached a certain saturation point soon, the traffic on rails continues to grow (this time it was 3.4%). One has to remark that the statistical amount is apparently calculated by utilizing ticket sales given the fact that Switzerland does not employ a mandatory seat reservation system and passenger counting is therefore difficult.
I wonder what image we will see next year, respectively the year after, when the opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel takes full effect. (btw: it seems that the cog-wheel pax numbers are not out yet so I excluded them in the chart.
