Snapshot on Railways in Malaysia

Last week it was announced that China is going to build and finance the new East Coast Railway line in Malaysia according to this article.

This means that the region is moving another step towards an integrated railway network. As the project homepage points out, the ECRL creates a high capacity access to the ports and cities on the Malay western part’s east coast to the rest of the country as well as creating an alternative route on the North-South line from Thailand.

Together with the new high-speed line towards Singapore, it is a start for the standard gauge network in the country. To map this out, I made now a second attempt on an overview map, this time on Malaysia.
